McCain's Appeal

Sen. McCain campaign has struggling for many months thru over spending with a top-heavy staff. But as a veteran of the Vietnam War he is look up to by the vets as a hero. They believe that he is a man who sticks to his guns and won't back down.

It should be noted that most of his stops are geared to older voters and vets. It is not uncommon for him make speeches at Rotary Clubs. The Senator also holds many of his town meetings at American Legion Halls.

It should be noted the Sen. McCain dismissed the notion that he only attracts vets and older voters, and gives examples of many young people who come to his town meetings to ask questions on his views on specific subjects such as medical marijuana.

But it also be noted that in 2004 the highest registration was among Americans 65 and older. Also for that election over 70% of the voters were over 45.

So if Sen. McCain focus on his military credentials which older people like, and keep his independence that the young people like, then he still could have a shot, but is probably his only shot.
