Obama Says He Can United U.S.
In a recent interview Sen. Barack Obama said that he has a better chance to unite the American people than Sen. Hillary Clinton. He believed that the polls show she is leading only because she is so well know. But many people in the party as well as independents have a strong dislike for her. Obama believes that he has a much better chance to unite the nation, even it he is not as well known as Sen. Clinton. His next few months will try to remedy this.
Sen. Obama also made a broader argument that more than a change in parties is needed to fix the country's problems. Sen. Clinton says that she is the experienced "Washington hand,' while he believes that we need new blood to change the ways Washington is doing business. This can be a very strong point sense the Democrats have not passed any noted legislation since they took over both houses.
Another item he brought up with regard to meeting other nations was "Senator Clinton apparently disagrees with me on this issue of preconditions," he said. "I think she's wrong on that because if we continue to set preconditions for discussions that are hostile to us, I think that's what loses the PR battle worldwide because it implies the United States is the superior power and other states have to give in to our demands before we even deign to meet with them. And that reinforces the sense of the arrogance of U.S. power around the world, which is a source of great damage -- and makes us less safe."
Sen. Obama is trying to show strong differences between himself and Sen. Clinton. His observations are sound but whether the American people will listen is another story.
